Liposuction is a method of vacuum removal of limited (local) accumulation of adipose tissue.

The localization is connected with the body constitutions, but most often the fat is located on the trunk, thighs, buttocks, calves, in the area of the knee and in the chin area. Adipose tissue can be divided in two types - functional and reserve. Functional subcutaneous adipose tissue is distributed evenly over the surface of the body and determines the characteristic of the man or woman's body shape. It can rapidly decrease with weight loss.

Reserve fat disappears with weight loss very slowly, and such type of adipose tissue is constant in certain areas, notably impairing the body contour. Location of adipose tissue is defined by genetic predisposition and the gender. The amount of adipose tissue can be changed by reducing the weight of the body, but the body shape will stay the same. Thus, diet and exercise can change the amount of deposits, but not enough to change the general shape of the body.

Thus, the goal of liposuction surgery is to recreate the normal proportions of the parts of the body, to improve its shape and general look.

Liposuction

Liposuction is recommended to

Liposuction can be recommended for people who have excess fat in certain areas of the body, but have normal weight and body shape, and elastic skin. Age is not important, but it's worth noting that, due to lower skin elasticity, the results of liposuction of elderly people are not the same as the results of younger patients with elastic skin.

Liposuction is not recommended for people with cardiovascular disease, varicose veins, especially in the area of surgery, diabetes, and various skin diseases, as well as for those who have recently had surgery on that area of the body, in which liposuction is planned.

Liposuction doesn’t help in cases of:

overall obesity, loose and stretched skin, disorders of the figure, not associated with changes in fatty tissues (muscles, bones, abdominal organs, glands).

Three important liposuction advantages:

operation gives permanent results, as at the places of fat cells accumulations that store fat, the scar is formed and the operation leaves virtually no scars on the skin. When the surgery is performed by an experienced surgeon postoperative complications are extremely rare.

Possible limitations:

When removing excess fatty deposits the excess of skin covering them appears. Elasticity of the skin is individual and tends to decrease with age, as well as after the previous skin extension (if the person has lost weight). In such cases, especially when removing large amounts of fat, the skin can sag, what is considered as a negative result.

Absolute symmetry of the right and left sides of the body is impossible, either before or after surgery. Often, it is the operation to reduce the difference. Liposuction is not aimed at weight loss, which can be controlled by diet and exercise. Skin irregularities that existed before surgery may also remain after it.

In order to perform the surgery successfully:

A patient should have the absence of any acute illness at the time of the operation (cold or other illness), should stop taking medications that contain aspirin 10 days before surgery, smoking is strictly prohibited within 10 days before surgery and for 3-4 days after it. The night before a patient should take a bath. The operation is carried out on an empty stomach.

Performing the operation:

A brief examination is carried out before the operation.

The operation is performed under general or local anesthesia, the fat is removed through small holes (10-15 mm) in the skin with thin metal and a special suction catheters. Skin wounds are sutured with a special hidden cosmetic suture, then stick with a plaster. After the surgery a special compression garment should be worn.

Postoperative period:

during the first 4-5 weeks there may be a slight increase in body temperature; to prevent bruising and saggy skin a patient should wear a compression garment continuously for the first 2-5 weeks and then another 1.5-2 months in the daytime; temporary complications include: violation of colors (black and blue), and swelling of the tissues in the operated areas, infiltration of tissues, reduced sensitivity, limited mobility, general weakness.

Possible complications:

Roughness of the skin in the treated area, bleeding (interstitial blood loss) infection. Extensive tissue processing inner thigh area may cause swelling in the ankle, which may remain for several weeks.

However, when correctly performing liposuction above complications are rare.

The effect of the surgery remains for:

While maintaining a relatively constant weight liposuction effect remains forever. If the patient is gaining weight, then, as with any other plastic surgery, the result is always worse. However, even in this case new fat is deposited more evenly than before liposuction.
